First Gin Tourney as TD?
Saturday, June 17th, 2006 at 1:45 pm by Debbie
After months of discussion with other hosts I finally decided it was the right time for me to start hosting gin tournaments. They are all a wonderful group of people and more than willing to work around my schedule. Monday AJ started sending me files. What on earth are macros and scrollers? Tuesday, Jhnny did my training. To say it was overwhelming is an understatement. What have I gotten myself into? It’s ok, I can do this! So, the rest of the week I have spent studying, creating a one page cheat sheet, and making up my tournament pages. This will work…. I think!
So… I crawl into bed around 2am this morning with the anticipation of my first tournament today. Am I nervous? Naaaahhhhhh!! I wake up and look at the clock. It is 3:55pm. Oh no! The tournament starts in five minutes and I haven’t done my macs! I am supposed to in Gimlet (the gin room) at least 30 minutes before the tourney starts. Oh crud, I have already blown it! I rush downstairs, boot up the computer, and open Gimlet and the admin page. It is now 4:05. I click the appropriate commands to get the tourney going and announce pairings. Now everyone is playing so it is down time for me. I go into another window and start playing a game while I wait. Oh geeze. I just remembered I never ran the rules. Oh crud! Nothing I can do about it now. So, back to my game. The problem is that I got so engrossed in the game I forgot to look in the other window for reports. Ok that is it! AJ is gonna hit the roof! I will be fired before I finish my inaugural tournament.
The good news is about that time I really woke up! Oh my.. what a dream! I still had all day and didn’t miss anything! Only two hours to go now. Macs are ready, check-in is clicked, and I won’t forget to run the rules. I have my cheat sheet sitting right here in front of me. Oh yeah… under no circumstances am I going in another window to play a game while I wait.
